Abstract:This article reviews the implications of the World Trade Organization's Agreement on Agriculture for access to food, the global consumer's most fundamental right. In documenting various reasons why current agricultural trade liberalization policies threaten food access for many in the developing world, the report cites the power of transnational food companies in managing global commodity trade. It recommends thorough research of the role of TNCs in shaping agricultural policies, and of the market-distorting impact of their oligopoly power.
